  • Overview

    The Compliance Specialist assists in maintaining the CPL Compliance Program.  Helps create, maintain and revise compliance policies.  Performs regular audits to promote compliance throughout the organization.


    Promotes Compliance within Clinical Pathology Laboratories by conducting audits, helping design training materials, and being available as a resource to all employees.    Creates supportive climate by serving as a role model for behavior.  Works with minimal direction.  Effectively communicates via written, verbal, one on one, telephone, and email.



    Principle Responsibilities:



    • Conduct audits
      • Conduct in-depth billing audits defined by the Compliance Department using knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements
      • Performs Risk Assessment of CPL business annually with other compliance department personnel
      • Performs audits of other areas defined as high risk areas
      • Maintains logs, files and prepares correspondence for all audits


    • Trainings and polices
      • Maintains policies and procedures related to Compliance
      • Works with other departments to ensure policies are kept up to date and available
      • Coordinates required trainings.  Prepares training material, scheduling, tracking attendance, following up as required and maintaining files of training materials and meetings.


    • Utilizes personal and professional skills to promote customer relations
    • Communicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care
    • Maintains and supports a service oriented relationship with its customers
    • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
    • Strives to maintain a positive work environment
    • Monitors communication avenues. Responds as appropriate. Keeps log, maintains systems, and prepare reports



    Education:  Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or a healthcare related field.  Certification in Healthcare Compliance and Certification in Health Care Privacy required.


    Experience:  1-2 years of laboratory training or experience.  2-3 years of compliance experience in a healthcare setting.


    Skills:  Knowledge of Stark and Anti-kickback statutes. Knowledge of HIPAA Regulations.   Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements.   Ability to manage difficult, sensitive and confidential situations with integrity and professionalism. Strong interpersonal skills; able to deal effectively with diverse skill sets and personalities. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Highly organized with proven ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and manage several projects at one time. Possess a high degree of flexibility to respond rapidly to changing goals, ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Executes all job responsibilities and assignments promptly, reliably, honestly and ethically. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
