  • Overview

    The Compliance Auditor assists in maintaining the CPL Compliance Program.  Helps create, maintain and revise compliance policies.  Performs regular audits and inspections to promote compliance throughout the organization.


    Helps design training materials, and is available as a resource to all employees.    Creates supportive climate by serving as a role model for behavior.  Works with minimal direction.  Functions as a liaison between regional billing personnel and Austin to help increase understanding of billing compliance.   Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone and computer methods.




    1. Conduct audits
    • Performs audits of Medicare and Medicaid claims to ensure accuracy of charges using knowledge of coding regulations of laboratories
    • Performs audits of other areas defined as high risk areas
    • Guide CPL managers through appropriate corrective action and track completion
    • Participate in Risk Assessment of CPL business annually with other compliance department personnel
    • Prepare audit results and present findings to Compliance Committee



    • Compliance Department Duties
    • Responsible for creation and review of all PAF’s and custom profiles
    • Responsible for review and creation of custom requisitions
    • Review and audit Laboratory Information System database as defined by the Compliance Department
    • Contribute to NCD/LCD file quarterly revisions


    • Utilizes personal and professional skills to promote customer relations.
    • Communicates with CPL staff and clients to encourage compliant billing
    • Helps in training by creating and delivering Webinars, creating MediaLab courses and participating in regional phlebotomy meetings
    • Maintains and supports a service oriented relationship with customers.
    • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients.
    • Strives to maintain a positive work environment.


    • Inspection of CPL phlebotomy locations
    • Job includes approximately 20% travel to conduct on-site visits and inspections
    • Identify problems which involve HIPAA, Stark, Anti-Kickback Statute and OSHA
    • Educate employees on proper protocol
    • Prepare written reports of all visits
    • Track corrective action by regional managers


    Education:  Degree in Medical Technology preferred.


    Certification:  Certified Professional Coder required.


    Experience:  Minimum – three years of laboratory experience in a medical laboratory, billing or compliance department.


    Skills:  Familiar with Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements.  Good technical knowledge of laboratory pre-analytic procedures.    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports.  Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents, memos, and required correspondence.  Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods.  Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory clients.
