Overview

This position requires the ability to multitask.  Must be able to answer multi-line phone professionally and efficiently, greet patients, enter patients into lab computer systems and maintain a professional and welcoming environment in the Patient Service Center.  This position provides a high level of customer service to the patients visiting CPL.    Must adhere to departmental policies and procedures and be able to take and follow direction.   

 

Promotes quality patient/client relations and creates supportive climate by serving as a role model.  Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory.  Adheres to all laboratory policies and regulations.  Works with minimal direction, consults with supervisors as needed.  Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone, and computer methods.

Responsibilities

  1. Answering the phone, effectively and efficiently
    • Directing callers to the appropriate person or department in a timely manner.
    • Accurate messages distributed quickly.
    • Maintaining professional environment at the front desk both through communication and appearance, keeping the front desk tidy.
    • Able to work independently at the front desk as well as being part of the Patient Service Center Team.
  1. Greeting and thanking patients
    • Greet patients as they enter Patient Service Center.
    • Check in patients
    • Thank patients as they leave. 
  1. Enter patients into lab computer systems
    • Enter patients into Atlas upon arrival
    • Prepare paperwork for phlebotomist
            • Gather patient demographics
            • Obtain insurance informatio
            • Take payments from patients
          • Gather tubes necessary for phlebotomist to draw patient
          • Use MISYS and understand specimen requirements.                                                                                                            
  1. Provides a high level of customer service
  • Communicates with phlebotomy staff and patients to ensure quality patient care.
  • Maintains and supports a service oriented relationship with clients.
  • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patients.
  • Strives to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Enthusiastically performs miscellaneous duties with completion in a designated time frame.

           

Qualifications

Education: 

High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience:

Minimum – Prefer experience in customer service and/or in a healthcare environment.

 

Skills:  Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory customers.  Ability to read and write. Ability to type proficiently.

 

Reporting Relationship:  Reports to Team Leader.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires light to medium lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires manipulation of tools, objects, and equipment using the following physical motions:  pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with both hands, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist, climbing under, lifting up, lifting down, and reaching under.  Routinely requires coordination of two or more physical operations.  Routinely requires visual discrimination of color, size, shape, and motility.  Requires ability to hear audible alarms on any temperature monitored equipment and automated analyzers.

 

Environmental Demands:  Works in temperature controlled environment with constant exposure to biological and chemical hazards.  May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency situation.  May be required to work with time constraints and crisis situations.
